WAIC Kick-Start, You In?

May 4, 2025 Wilsonville Alliance for Inclusive Community

WAIC Gathering (2024)

WAIC Kick-Start!

We’re looking to restart WAIC to help unite neighbors to build community in Wilsonville, where everyone experiences this place as an inclusive community that celebrates diversity, and takes on hard conversations and decisions to address inequity (these are not posturing labels, but have specific meaning - see how we define them below). Read more about our vision, mission, and purpose here.

Over the next 2 months, I’m hoping to find a group of 5-10 people who can lean in to kick-start WAIC’s work.

Good things: we have a website, over 1,000 people on an email list, non-profit status, and funding! What we need are people who commit to help organize routine gatherings, support one another in action, and step in to fill in organizational roles. This can be as much or as little as people have time and interest. If you’re feeling the itch to lean in, the door is open!

If you are interested in being a part of this kick-start conversation, please email us at connect@wilsonvillealliance.org so we can include you in the scheduling email. Once I have a date set, I’ll send out another email here to let people know.

Please feel free to pass this along to others who might have an interest as well.

Thank you,
Garet Steel Prior, Co-Chair

Diversity is the presence of differences within a setting, which aids in greater productivity, problem-solving, enriched perspectives, and efficiency. We pursue diversity through recognizing gender, age, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, physical and mental health, and other attributes.

Inclusion is all about individuals feeling welcomed, respected, valued and involved. As with equity, inclusion is not a natural derivative of diversity. The act of inclusion seems simple: involve others. However, there is much more to it.

Equity is giving attention to the advantages and disadvantages that exist among groups and individuals, identifying a correction of those inequities, and working through relationships to increase access to resources and opportunities in the pursuit of just outcomes. Equity is equally about the process, as it is the outcome (e.g. housing, transportation, education, etc.).
