RECAP: WAIC Gathering, Wednesday, July 1 from 7:00-8:30pm
Meeting Summary
Attendees: Maripat, Larissa, Garet, Sarah, Patrick, Christy, Jennie, Laurie, Kamran (10 total attendees).
The meeting opened with a group activity sharing places and experiences that bring joy in Wilsonville, followed by working breakout sessions for the Food Truck and Beach projects, and concluded with administrative updates. Christy provided delicious brownies, and Sarah and Patrick came with quality chips.
Food Truck Event
Team & Logistics: Tabi has been brought on board as the event planner. The focus is now on establishing a project management structure. Looking at October to hold the event.
Location Scouting: The team is targeting vacant properties for the event, specifically discussing the Old Albertson’s, Fry’s, or the former movie theater.
Event Vision: The goal is a clean, highly enjoyable event featuring high-quality food and entertainment (with a weather tent as a contingency). The pros and cons of serving alcohol were also debated.
Funding & Budget: The group brainstormed marketing budgets, fundraising ticket sales, and potential local sponsorships.
Entertainment: Ideas included John Hill-Payne, local school groups or choirs, and a connection with a dance group.
Beach Project
Next Steps: The core focus is determining if concrete removal will trigger environmental impacts.
Community Engagement: It is essential to engage with Old Town residents early to gather their input and build awareness.
WAIC Administration
Operations: Updates were shared regarding the Gmail non-profit application, current budget status, and projected expenditures.
Community Events: The Metro Vision committee discussed the upcoming Future Vision Youth event, which WAIC will help promote.
Leadership: Larissa has expressed interest in stepping into the WAIC Treasurer position.
